The longest day and the shortest night of the year was celebrated on 23 June with various creative activities and concerts. In Ropaži Manor Park, along with local residents, asylum seekers and Ukrainian civilians took part in the Midsummer Day celebrations, who gained insight into the Latvian way of life and Midsummer Day traditions by participating in various creative workshops. Participants could take part in a wreath-making workshop, a cheese-making workshop and taste the results afterwards, and a woodworking workshop where they could learn about manger carving, dowelling, sawing, sanding and planing. Alongside the creative workshops, visitors also took part in interactive participatory activities of an ethnographic nature - walking with wooden legs, spinning the teetotum, “fishing” for fish, chasing a puck, “skiing” with triple skis and wrestling with sacks filled with shingles. Music was provided by the vocal group “Latvian Voices”, the ecological music group “Ducele”, the music group “ElektroFolk”, and after the concert all the attendees had the opportunity to dance until the morning light at a summer ball with the music group “Eels of the Sixties”.
The event took place within the framework of the project “Integration Related Measures Mucenieki”, which is implemented under the programme “Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Cultural Cooperation”, co-financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through EEA Grants.
